Island of Treasures!
« on: March 08, 2012, 02:44:54 pm »

Okay, so there's this Island in my region 2 save, which is perfect: heavy forest, dry tropical broadleaf, tons of clay, sand and metals of all kinds. The only problem is, is that I've started and abandoned two fortresses on it. How can I edit the file so that the abandoned fortresses aren't there anymore, and that i can build again?
much love!

Thank you everyone for the help! I've since flooded the fortress I was working on and now have a new one going up.

Doing so will revisit the site of one of your old forts - constructions and workshops and items and such will still be there, as might be a mound of corpses. And monsters from the deeps might have escaped. Take caution.

Alternately you can reclaim to take note of where exactly on the world your abandoned forts are, then delete the world and regen using the same parameters.

You can get the world seed and all parameters by loading up your fort, press escape and pick "Export Local Image."  There will be a file created in the main DF folder with all the worldgen parameters that were used to generate that world.  (The file will be named something like "Fortressname-param-blahblahblah.txt) Copy the contents of that file into a file called world_gen.txt under the data/init/ folder of your DF folder.  You probably want to edit the "TITLE" line so that it doesn't clash with one of the existing presets.  You can set the TITLE to "My Perfect World" or something.

Then start up DF and pick the "Generate world with Advanced Parameters" and pick the "My Perfect World" option.  It will generate the same world every time, so you can continuously attempt to start a fort, abandon, delete the save, generate a new, fresh world, etc.

I don't understand, though that is about right with anything DF related.
I just hope he dies the same death that all dwarfs deserve: liver disease.
