seriously before you criticize him read his friend's bio. If I were this guy, whether or not if I had amourous feelings for this girl, I think I would help her out. She has a great resume, was born into what sounds like the lowest rug of the social ladder, and with an abusive family (or one where the father and mother just don't get along). She has overcome all of that to preform much better in highschool than many of us ever have or will.

Truth? I got the impression he's sweet on her and is trying to play White Knight.

How is this "White Knight" behaviour? It doesn't fill any of my criteria.

Why would it matter if I were? Why would it matter?

Because I'm a lot less willing to help someone help someone else when I think it's because their underlying motivation is getting in their good graces. That's not altruism, and it doesn't make me feel particularly altruistic either.

Because of how HARD he's selling it, and how long it didn't take for him to get defensive. Although that at least can be understood given the reception he got. Now that he's actually made her into a person I'm less inclined to think what I thought before. Initially it seemed less about her and more about delivering her a victory. But that's what you get when you don't give enough in the OP.

I apologize if I gave the wrong impression initially.

As to why I got so defensive: I felt like my efforts here were under attack.

Well, we can be kind of attack-y. But for me at least, I love this community and when I feel like its size and responsiveness gets used, for advertising, spamming, page hits or voting power, it's a hot button for me. And I'm not the only one.

So just remember we're not opposed to properly formatted walls of text around here (to a point.) It's a sign you're genuine. And when you're asking for vote/page hits help, and you're new, that's the first thing many people look for.

To everyone here who suffered my inelegant approach to the matter: I apologize for my poor approach, and I thank you for reading and maybe even looking at her bio and voting.  She got bumped to 3rd before polling closed, but there's next year.
