Apparently, this is a book that is now being made into a movie.

Yes, this is a thing that is happening. The more I find out about it, the more I want to know. I just requested the book from my local library- here's the plot summary for your enjoyment.

Indiana, 1818. Moonlight falls through the dense woods that surround a one-room cabin, where a nine-year-old Abraham Lincoln kneels at his suffering mother's bedside. She's been stricken with something the old-timers call "Milk Sickness." "My baby boy..." she whispers before dying. Only later will the grieving Abe learn that his mother's fatal affliction was actually the work of a vampire. When the truth becomes known to young Lincoln, he writes in his journal, "henceforth my life shall be one of rigorous study and devotion. I shall become a master of mind and body. And this mastery shall have but one purpose ..." Gifted with his legendary height, strength, and skill with an ax, Abe sets out on a path of vengeance that will lead him all the way to the White House.

MINOR NECRO!

Just finished the book, and I heartily recommend it. Lots of gore, dismemberment, and the general gruesomeness sorely lacking in recent Vampire-related works that will not be mentioned here. The conceit is that the author has found the secret journals of Abraham Lincoln which detail his vampire hunting career and its impact on his political career. It's quite well written, pairing "journal entries" that sound like something Abe Lincoln would have written describing the action paired with third person commentaries that go into detail about the setting. All in all it's like something you might see on the History channel. (I'd have qualified that with "except without the vampires," but these sad days who knows.)

I didn't realize it before I got the book, but the author is Seth Graham-Smith, also known as "that guy who wrote Pride and Prejudice and Zombies." According to TvTropes, he did the screenplay himself, so I have high hopes for the experience of the book to translate to the big screen.

My only disappointment is that there is no sequel. Why?

Abe Lincoln becomes a Vampire in the epilogue, and goes on to fight renegade vampires and Klu Klux Klan members and such over the next century. Something like the third to last sentence in the entire book makes a passing reference to Abraham Lincoln's role in WWII, also known as the "second great Vampire Uprising." COME ON, now I want to read about Abe Lincoln getting nuts on Vampire Nazis.

I did enjoy playing "who's a vampire" as historical figures turned up in the book- I was right more often than not, but there were a couple good twists. And if you read this book as if vampires don't exist, then it reads more like "Abe Lincoln: Crazy Serial Killer" which is just as entertaining. Seriously, go read this book.

Yep, I do not mess around with my spoilers. Granted, once it came to the event it was pretty obvious what was gonna go down, but it was still pretty awesome.
