MOD REQUEST - Remove butchering limits
« on: February 27, 2012, 04:07:16 am »

I'm requesting a small mod that allows you to butcher animals regardless of the way they die, for example, killed by goblins or falling from a high tower etc.
I guess it is possible to make a mod to do this and would very much appreciate if someone did this.

Hello, welcome to modding. We can't mod this.
There are however a couple of threads explaining how to make butcher towers in the Dwarf Fortress Discussion subforum.

There are two different limitations here on butchering.

First, you can't butcher intelligent creatures.  This is a limitation imposed by the civilization ethics.  You can mod this by changing the ETHIC:EAT_SAPIENT_OTHER line in the entity raw for the dwarven civilization.  Note that this requires a world regen to take effect.

Second, you can't butcher tame animals which died from any cause other than being deliberately slaughtered by a dwarf at a butcher's shop.  This is hardcoded and can't be changed.

There is no restriction on butchering creatures which died by falling from a high tower, provided those creatures were neither tame nor intelligent.
