Well, being in a fairly isolated rural area, my local crafts store's paints were a bit of an investment, but I think it was worth it.

Painting was a load of fun, I really enjoyed seeing the figure come to life before my eyes. I regret forgoing the priming step, but I'm still satisfied.

He looks great :)

Painting is one of my favorite steps too. It really adds life to the sculpt.\

One thing I've learnt is that you should thin your paints a bit, and use more coats if you need to. Otherwise the brushmarks can be a little over pronounced.

I'm not really serious here, but just to keep the topic going, I played with PlayDoh with my kid.

Needless to say, he was brutally torn apart shortly afterwards by a forgotten beast toddler.

So this is my first go at this :)
I am somehoe unable to make a really good picture even in macro-mode
I was going for princess peach and obviously there is room for improvement.
so to you people who are good at this: Do you recommend to just practice or are there some "tricks" or "need-to-knows" i am unaware of?
(and yes, that's a manicure set in the background that i used for tools)

Started making this hauberk a while back during a summer holiday, it's about 60% complete, the sleeves and upper part are done, ends right above the navel, should be about mid-thigh long. It's not just three tubes connected together, I got a pattern somewhere, can't remember what site anymore. Didn't find the right wire for it when I started, so it's made of 1,5mm gauge galvanized iron wire, interior diameter of the rings is 8mm, wanted to make it out of 2mm stainless steel, with 10mm int. diam rings. Standard 4-in-1 euro pattern.

I coil the wire around a metal rod, take it out to get a metal spiral, that looks like a compressed spring, then use a tool that's something of a hybrid of bolt cutters and tin snips to cut the rings, then use two pairs of pliers to close up half of the rings and open up the other half a little more, and then it goes a little something like this. I've done small things in 6-in-1, made a sleeve for a homemade hookah pipe. It's made of the same rings as the hauberk, but in euro 6-in-1 pattern, the lower part has smaller rings on the outside. Looks a little sloppy and flawed when held like this, but on the hookah, when it was snug and the mail was stretched out, it looked pretty neat. The galvanized iron wire is not really good for this kind of thing, dull, grey and smelly.
