1. Are your raws modded? if so, you cant report it as bug
2. First check the bug tracker for similar issues
3. You have recieved armoks blessing, this fort may not fail!

And when you answer the question 'are your raws modded' keep in mind that installing a graphics pack does count as modding, and can break your game if the graphics pack isn't compatible with that version of the game.

Also, is there an open magma pipe or other access to the magma sea where a fire imp, magma crab, or other magma-dwelling creature could get out?

Spontaneous combustion is never Toady's fault. The temperature system is sound. If you didn't change temperature settings or ignite points, and there is no visible reason (fire imps, dragons, magma), I suspect that you just embarked somewhere where it's really hot.

What's the temperature on your map? Have pools evaporated? Are plants dying?

You can't directly check your map's temperature, but you can look at what's burning and what isn't. There is an advanced way of checking the temperature, but that involves a lot of melting point modding and "is it melting yet" checks. But that pool of magma, is it a magma pipe, or is it just a smear of magma? Does it look like water looks? If you set water to show flow amounts, does the magma a number? Could it actually be just a smear of blood or red sand? Does it flow? Look at it with {k} and tell me what it displays. Because it could, if very unlikely, be a puddle of a rock that got molten in the sun, in which case your map is just freaking hot. Are your dwarves perchance running around burning?

Our tale of seven dwarves began on a sunny day in early spring, when out of the blue everybody burned to death without even knowing why. THE END.

Tile temperature can be checked with DFHack (see the modding forum). It's pretty simple to use -- you extract the DFHack folder into the one that the DF game itself is in, and the next time you open DF you get a text box that you can type stuff in. 'k' over a tile and type in "probe" and you get information on the tile, including temperature.

Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.
