Crashes of ¤awesomeness¤
« on: February 24, 2012, 04:15:22 am »

My forts all keep crashing at one point. So far I've abandoned two forts in the 34.02 version, both of large size.

To put the loss into perspective:

This is the kind of fort I've abandoned because of crashes.  :-X

Anyone else experiencing crashes? I have auto save on.

Read the "Best DF computer?" thread.

It might be related to your game crashing due to the amount of RAM needed to do some things?  Read the thread! :O

There are no bugs, only features the crashes are telling you that your fort is awesome enough and it's time to explore it in adventure mode.

I've heard of people having problems with auto save, that's why I went to save and backup manually when I see "<season> has arrived". Menial, but functional.

I had crashes, and while none of them seemed to have damaged the saves I didn't trust there not to be some hidden flaw that would break my game if I went with it, so I reloaded the most recent backup and usually that passes the point where it originally crashed.

All that being said, my games crash very rarely considering the hours I pour into the game.

I'd do some massive clean up.  Either dig a hole to the magma sea and start dumping rocks or get DFHack and use autodump to move everything and destroy it.  Probably get ya some more life out of the fort.
