some items won't equip

For some reason I can't equip certain items. For example, I found some iron chain leggings in an abandoned castle, but when I hit w, it just tells me I have nothing left to wear. It had no problems letting me equip a bronze helm and an iron cap though.

Some pieces of armor or clothing can't be stacked. You can't stack chain legs on top of leather pants, for example. Boots are the same way. If you're not being allowed to wear a piece of armor or clothing, check what you're wearing, remove what's on those sections and try again.

If an item has the 'small' or 'large' prefix then it is not the right size for your adventurer.

Also, items in nested containers in one's backpack must be removed to show up in the list of wearable stuff.

i was just able to put on 3 chain mail shirts under my iron breatplate. is that normal?
