Better start burying the dead then.

HUZZAH!, found the caverns!, have well water. My fortress, is sav-DOO-STABLE!, yeah, that's the word.

Cept for those damned cave crocs and occassional giant Olm. The cave crocs have Om nommed so many dwarves. They must be fat by now.

Oh well, I'm gonna catch them in traps, tame them, and use em as a welcoming committee.

Also, I like the ghosts. They punch annoying useless Dwarvern brats.

Unfortunately, once wild animals have tasted the savory flavor of Dwarvn flesh, they will hunger for it for the rest of their lives, even when tamed. You would be better advised either herding the wild Crocodiles into a moat with war dogs, or else just killing the named ones. The crocodiles that haven't killed dwarves yet are still salvageable, however.

Actually, that's what I planned. A big pit of Crocodiles with which to dump my unwanted guests into.

And I guess once something tastes booze marinated flesh, you can NEVER go back.

Okay, does your fortress have zombie re-animations or has there ever been any undead on the map?

If so, Zombie Apocalypse.

I want to tell you they were bad men, cephalo.  I want to tell you that with a better overseer the Fortress never would've gotten so bad someone would get offed in a pointless fisticuffs.
But the sad truth charlie?
It was inevitable.

Nah, didn't settle in an evil area this time. The last two times were a Zombie Apocalypse. But hey, at least the second one was ultra-awesome. Two of my dwarves went down like MEEEN, guitar riff's and all.

As for this area, the worst invaders on the map have been Kobold's and a Polar bear. Which one of the starving and now dead dwarves from before I got the place stabilized appearently beat to death with his own bare hands, and ate him. Shortly before succumbing to thirst.

It was rather funny, I read in his thoughts that he had been quite content, he ate a decent meal lately, was complaining about thirst. And I was like "wTF?, there's no food here?, where did he find food?, no Vermin either, the cats are eating it all". And I found the mutilated corpse of a Polar bear near the main entrance of the fortress.

And earlier I had gotten a "Urist Mcdumbshit cancels action, interupted by polar bear" for a brief moment. But, when I went to zoom in on the area, I couldn't find the Bear. I figured the bear ran off the map or something. Nope, he got Om nommed.

So far though, the area is pretty peaceful. That'll change once I get sieges and what not. But my biggest problem right now is the caverns. And sneaky cave croc's that camp the stairways into them. Thank god I hatched most of em.

Welcome to the mad, mad world of RAW errors or duplication. Somewhere you have files which dont quite add up, and crazy shit happens(..) There are instances of this where you can adventure as a fly, or embark with wagonmeat, wearing shoes made of burning soap(..)

DF is so awesome that it doesnt just crash, it crates batshit crazy worlds where intelligent chairs farm dragons and make houses out of thier toenails.

Oh yes, so many things to do. So many traps to design. I have to harvest more ice, shape the outer walls into a more pyramid like design and make access so much more deadly for invaders. And expand the tomb yet again. For those traps that will lead to the fortress, will undoubtedly leave epic bodies. And a rogue Necromancer will ruin my day.

The tomb is oh so important for containing potentiol zombies

And I have to get more vampires, and create a well of unlife!

I wonder how big a fall it will take to explode a vampire, since they don't drown. And can take a hammering like a MAAAAAN

See how well they take a pitchblende one to the head. Even in weak untrained hands they shatter bones on the first swing.

If you want the reaction I'll be happy to supply it. Just PM me. And 3 untrained dwarves armed with these hammers can feed a fortress for a year believe it or not.

Update: The hauntings at Rackscars are getting more awesome. The ghosts are no longer content to pummel the children dwarves.

As 5 minutes prior to writing this, Logem Igathkol Ghostly Furnace Operator has not only battered Rovod Mengmeden Miner. But has completely ripped his left upper leg off!.

And yet somehow, Rovod is hobbling away from this slowly, not bleeding. And simply not happy.

Oh yes, two of the child dwarves went stark raving mad, and grew up WHILE Stark raving mad.

Work continues on the icy hell of Rackscars!. As soon as my cage traps are fully implemented on the entrances from the caverns, I shall begin the well of unlife!
