According to the Dwarf Fortress wiki, I need rough rock crystal to make crystal glass.  What are rough rock crystal and how would I be able to tell if something is a rough rock crystal?

t''s so sad.  It''s as if De Beers as invaded Dwarf Fortress.  I nearly cried when I saw how valued and rare diamonds were in Dwarf Fortress.

Rock crystal is a type of gem that nominally can show up in any rock type, but it's pretty rare. Don't count on ever making crystal glass.

you can ask for rock crystals under small cut gems. not sure if you can make glass from cut ones though.

Sadly, you can't make crystal glass from cut rock crystal.  I usually mod the game to make rock crystal into a cluster type, rather than a small cluster.
