Seriously 3 sea monsters v. one giant sperm whale, and the whale survived unscathed.
Giant sperm whales!? How big are those things?

It must be the size of a city! If toady implements multi-tile creatures it will probably take up the full screen, you'll be able to have adventures in the things guts.

That would actually be really awesome, get eaten by the thing and fight whatever weird things evolved in the things guts over the course of it's life and eventually escape through its blowhole.

It's the dwarf who carried it to the butchers shop you've got to feel sorry for.

Then again that'd be a pretty galling task for the butcher as well.

I don't know man, swimming in gore seems like the kind of thing some dwarfs would enjoy.

Is there a particular reason for why its hard to make creatures multi tile? Like technical and shit? *bad techno plays in background*

Knowing nothing of DF's internals, I can only speculate, but yeah, there's potentially quite a few complications on having multi-tile creatures.  You've got to worry about pathing when you need multiple tile widths for passability.  You have to worry about finding range to a multi-tile creature (to and from) when attacking.  If the creature isn't square / round you have to worry about facing.  Then you have to potentially worry with reachability of parts of the creature if it's being attacked from one side (although I think the combat system already does this to some degree).

Although, aren't wagons multi-tile?  I've never played a version of the game with wagons, but aren't they 3 tiles wide or something?  If so, that would indicate that there already exists code to handle some of these problems.  Wagons were buggy from my understanding though, so it's likely Toady hasn't worked out everything.

I think toady mentioned in one of the df talks that it also had to do with balance, if you've got multi tiled creatures then you could hide from one by going into a single tile wide corridor or crevice.

If you could set up a giant whale farm you'd never want for meat or bones again.

And multi tile creatures are well... Multi-tiled. As a tile in DF has no especific size....
