« on: November 08, 2007, 01:18:00 am »

My farmer had his eye removed while fighting wolves the other day and has been going unconscious alot. Its only been about a day and a half sence he got it removed but will it ever stop? If hes not usefull I think I'll just throw him in a pit and fill it with water.

Picture our world in 1050, and you get attacked by wolves, lose an eye, and get fairly traumatized. What sort of Medical care could you expect there? Not a heck of a lot, plus whatever diseases the wolf had.

In fact, I doubt medical care will ever get past this stage until Toady puts in leeches.

Or maybe poultice's... Tinctures anyone?
I prefer flingify() bridges off of cliffs. Pure entertainment.

I was considering that actauly, flinging him off a clif, but this place is just a sandy hill. Any ways thats a no then?

(I might try throwing him off the huge tower Im soon to build =] )

If his profession is not in high demand and/or he's a low skilled, put him on dedicated cleaning duty for the rest of his life.  If you want, put in other minor tasks to get done such as hauling non-essential items as he will drop it as soon as he faints.

If he's in the military, make him a city guard and never worry about him again, or put him in a squad (never as leader) of more than normal amount dwarves - he can add more to the squad, and he'll act as fodder if he faints.

If he dies, problem solved unless of course you care so much about him that you want him alive.

If he's an administrator, don't worry about him unless he's the broker.  If he's the mayor that means he has a lot of friends and they will all be upset if he dies, especially if he's in office.

EDIT:
In your case considder the following

- Do you need farmers?
- He'll mostly be doing nothing between growing and harvesting time
- If he faints while planting, someone will put the seeds back in the bag
- If he faints while harvesting, the plant will be dropped on the ground (not sure if this matters) and someone else will put the plant in the stockpile.
- He will cause some delays when working in workshops.
- Killing him off will make the fainting message spam go away.

You decide the best course of action.

I had a blind marksman once. He oddly enough never went unconscious. However he couldn't hit an archery target from one square away. The barracks cleared out REALLY fast when he came in to practice.
