I gotta say, I'm a little disappointed.  A guy comes in asking if anyone's read a good book about Nixon.  Nothing but responses of "Why would you want to learn anything about him pop culture hasn't told you?" and "Nah, this other guy Cracked.com loves to talk about would be a much better topic."

And for the record, I haven't read any good books about Nixon either.  Now I really to, but Bouchart does make a good point.  A lot of Nixon's estate and personal mementos are probably either destroyed from posterity or will be locked off for another generation.

I'm not sure off hand, but Wikipedia has a page of books he's credited as authoring and books about him.  There's probably something there for you.

I can use google myself, i'm asking for personal experience of a book that one of you might have read.

I didn't use Google.  I went to Wikipedia looking for a good biography and came across that page.  I made very clear in my post that I didn't know anything and was simply linking you to a page that I though would be relevant to what you said you wanted in the first post.  If it isn't what you're looking for, then calmly clarify.  I would deeply appreciate if you didn't attack me for making an attempt to help.

Wasnt meant as an attack, it was a short and lazy statement that I wouldn't have created a thread here so people could search the internet for me. Thats all.

I haven't come across anything particularly non-negative myself but i have seen a documentary that for most of the first part was rather impartial, around the middle of the show his drug problems were raised and the rest of the documentary did somewhat imply that his later actions were rather tainted by how unstable his personality became because of them, i really couldn't have blamed him. Though personally i think anyone with that sort of power is very throughly corrupted by the time they get into office.
edit: i know you weren't merely after something randomly pulled out of google, but here's something i randomly pulled out of google http://www.nytimes.com/1994/05/08/books/accentuating-the-positive.html?pagewanted=all&src=pm
that synopsis seems positive and interesting in teh way that i might want to read myself.

They're nearly as bad as badgers. Build a couple of anti-buzzard SAM sites marksdwarf towers and your fortress will look like Baghdad in 2003 from all the aerial bolt spam. You waste a lot of ammo and everything is covered in unslightly exploded buzzard bits and broken bolts.

There's actually a Nixon museum in California funded by the US government with a lot of documents and objects from his life if you ever have the chance to travel and want to learn more about him that way. But I personally have not done any research on Nixon, so there are no books I can recommend. If you want an "unbiased" view, however, you might instead try weighing the portrayal of books that are heavily apologetic about him against those that are more "traditional" in their perspective.

I've heard the Frost/Nixon interviews are very enlightening about the Watergate scandal and about how Nixon thought of being president.  Don't know much else, sadly enough.

Also good to keep in mind what Nixon's advisors WANTED him to do. The whole spying thing was his compromise.

The guy who proposed it was argued down by Nixon and others on the staff from outright kidnapping, blackmail, and a bunch of other nasty shit. He may have been a crook, but his worst mistake was being surrounded by even worse crooks (Like Liddy). (which I guess is still sort of his fault!)

"Talked down" from blackmail? They weren't trying to wiretap the place because they enjoyed the silky smooth baritone of a Democratic voice.

And what evil maniacal purpose did Nixon do?  Couldn't be any worse then what is going on today.
