Animal Man Origins
« on: February 17, 2012, 06:16:08 pm »

Instead of just treating animal men like any other wildlife, why not make them more like the animal men of Threetoe's stories - common animals changed into humanoids by an elven nature spirit thing to protect their species? A certain number of damselflies could warrant the transformation of so many damselflymen, who could only come about in elven forests and would only be made if their population dropped below that required for the damselfly population.

I'm not a coder, but it seems like it'd be fairly easy to implement, and it'd keep the animalmen from overwhelming the actual wildlife.

You wouldn't rush Goya or Faulkner or Tarantino. Think about Toady as equal to those artists. And then deal with it.

The prevalence of Animalmen is a bit disturbing. I for one would prefer if they took on a kind of kobold-like psuedo-civilization that is tied to the environment the templated creature lives in. Sites would get raided occasionally by Animalmen, but only as raids or sieges, and the Animalmen would not replace "real" wildlife.

Maybe every elven nature force could use one animal people species as a "Symbol".

Actually, I'd like something more similar to curses being placed by the gods, as well.  That, or some sort of "odds of actually being added to a world during worldgen" token that makes it so that there's only a 10% chance of any given whatever-man species being in there.

We have something like 100 new creatures, and ALL of them have a corresponding whatever-man.

Maybe it should be part of world generation, like gods pick animals that desecrate their temples or that they like. Also, why are there no dwarf-men?

I'm pretty sure there are no animal man versions of any creature that can speak.

Or even make them similar to the underground animal men but above ground. Ideally both underground and overground animal men will be expanded some. I'd like to see them ambush our dwarves and similar. Having them get angry at you killing their non-animal kin would be nice. Shouldn't elves recruit them during wars?

I thought there were. At one point in time I had a tigerman that only stood around talking to people. He never did anything productive, and eventually died of hunger though.

Can there be chimpanzeemen or bonobomen? If they existed, would they just be humans or would they be more like the "humanzees" Stalin allegedly wanted to breed to invade America with(which failed because that's retarded and humans and chimps cannot crossbreed)?
