Terrifying versus Sinster Biomes?
« on: February 17, 2012, 05:14:31 pm »

Do they have any effect on zombies raising? My last embark was on terrifying, and I couldn't get any undead to raise. My other was on a glacier, but I have forgotten if that was Sinister or not.

I embarked on a terrifying, nothing significantly bad happened until my dwarves got hit by the death fog...
A miner got caught in it and turned into a thrall...
Unkillable and pised off thralls that put their mining skill to use on dwarves are FUN.
Yet The dead do not reanimate.

I'm on a terrifying map. Wiped out by giant mosquitos, went to reclaim... and my previous dwarves had reanimated and killed the miners that were trying to make a controlled cave-in to get past the aquifer. I didn't last much longer after that...

From current knowledge, the savageness (sinister vs terrifying) of the land doesn't affect the chances of getting the "raise dead" effect. Each region has some randomly decided interactions, one kind being raise dead.

Congrats, Psieye. This is the first time I've seen a derailed thread get put back on the rails.

sinister, haunted and terrifying biomes are all evil, expect various assortments of supernatural spookiness going on.
The savagery on the other hand, changes. Sinister being the least savage evil biome, terrifying being the most. Expect larger, more ferocious creatures in more savage biomes.

This ^^ I believe Savagery has no effect on the effects of evil biomes, just the creatures you run into. I embarked on a haunted biome and it had my butchered chickens attacking my fort lol.

Your not playing Dwarf Fortress right if you don't see a message saying a Kitten (tame) had died in some horrible manner over and over again.
