can't engrave stone?

I'm trying to engrave my dining room, but whenever I try to engrave, it doesn't work. I designate the area for the engraving, but when i hit enter nothing happens. And yes, I do have a dwarf with the stone detailing labor on.

you need to mooth the walls before you can engrave on them

before you start engraving, it's best to train your engraver by smoothing out huge areas, so that you get quality engravings

also, make sure when you're planning, that engraved walls will never be needed to be dug out, destroying master piece engraving results in a tantrum

can't smooth stone either  :confused: This is really weird.

Are they constructed walls? You can't engrave them.
Are they rock/stone? You can't engrave sand, clay and so on.
Apart from that, I don't know.

yeah it was stone I was trying to smooth/engrave. For some reason it's working now though.
