Another glitchy embark?

I really thought I picked the perfect embark site for the kind of game I wanted to play. I wanted somewhere with seasons, a waterfall going into a canyon, a reasonable amount of surface wood, no aquifers, and a dwarf civilization with all 11 pure metals available for trade. But when I embarked, it said "horrifying screams come from the darkness below!"

When I scrolled to the surface, first I only noticed the tip of the waterfall was frozen. Maybe I didn't want seasons after all, I don't know what happens when waterfalls freeze. But then I noticed something else.

I started felling trees to climb over the wall, and investigate. I could get dwarfs to explore this strange structure by assigning 1x1 wood piles on the lowest floor I could see at the time.

I made it down only two floors before my first dwarf died.

If anyone is interested, for either finding the source of the bug or just to amuse oneself, I have a save from just after I had found the anomaly, and a save from before I embarked, and I know the exact embark coordinates. I tried embarking again at the same location once though, and it only crashed.

Edit: I meant to put this in the fortress mode forum, though I suppose I could have placed it in worse.

Did you mess with your worldgen settings?
For example removing cavern layers?
In such case it would make sense that clown house exits on the surface instead of in the caverns.

Probably related to the other hellish embarks with the new release.

Its some product of data not being cleaned up when world gens are rejected. The worldgen you got now is corrupted as such.

Problem should be fixed with the impending bugfix release.

Still pretty neat. Might as well make something out of it.

This embark is from a custom worldgen, but there should still be caverns and things. The embark party is just from a quick embark, I was just scouting.
