I'm on a terrifying map, so I have a hellish set of vermin. But this is ridiculous.
Thirty seconds after my kitchen is built, it's filled with swarms of blood gnats, acorn flies, normal flies. I fear your my dwarves' mood and my supplies. What can I do?

The map is full of plenty of other pests that are less bothersome (groups of birds, toads, dragonflies, kunckles worms, two legged rhino-lizards, normal lizard, fire snakes...it goes on). I haven't had a problem with the masses of demon rats yet, but I expect it.

Are cats my sole option? I'd rather not lose all the vermin on my map, I want to trap some.

Just get a cat.

One shouldn't kill all of them.
