So I've genned two worlds now. A 300 year world for each, large and medium. In each when I try to embark as an adventurer I get given the options human, elf and goblin. But no dwarf.
The first time I just assumed all the dwarves were dead.
Now I'm wondering if it's an adventure mode bug. Especially when I try to embark on the fortress mode and the empire of each civ is spread across large amounts of land on the map. I'm unsure if this might include old dead fortresses however.


So, is this a bug? Or should I keep genning worlds?

It happens sometimes, especially on smaller world gens, races will get wiped out during world-gen. Or rather, every civ location will be destroyed/occupied. You have to have a city or town to start an adventurer, but there may still be living dwarf historical figures around in the wilderness. I know one world I genned apparently had no elves, but after playing a fortress and an adventurer, elves resettled their old retreats from migrant groups that fled the retreats destruction. Since they are immortal, there are always survivors, apparently.

You can still create a Dwarf Fortress as well.

If you have a world where you can create dwarven adventurers, just say yes and that answers my question.

Check. Boot up legends mode, look for dwarven civilisations that aren't dead.

Yes. I'm playing a Dwarven adventurer right now. Genned a medium world w/default settings to year 245, and I still had plenty of dwarven options to choose from. You might've just gotten unlucky.

Look in legends mode? See what's killing them off, then turn that down a bit.

I'm running a default world generation except mineral scarcity is changed to 100. So unless it's that it should effect everyone and not just me, if it isn't just bad luck with seeds that is.

edit: fifth world that can't embark a dwarf now. Checking legends to see if they're alive or not.
