Dwarven Flipbook
« on: March 11, 2012, 06:32:51 pm »

This is a mega-project that would look awesome to pull off. you dig large areas at the same coordinates as each other on a bunch of levels, then you build floors of stone in a picture on them, each one a little different than the one above it. Then as you go down, it shows a moving picture. I apologize for redundancy if someone has already thought of this and no, I have not done it myself. My netbook can't support a population big enough to have the fifty masons required for this.

I reckon you could pull off the opening cutscene with 150 z lvls...

A bugged embark with thousands of z-level is needed. You'd be surprised how many frames you need in just a walk cycle.

6 seconds at 24 frames per second is 144 z-levels.

However, if our embark is wide enough, one can hit one of the hotkeys to recenter the view at the top of a new image stack and continue. A 3x3 embark could yield perhaps 8*6=48 seconds of 24fps video.

With what Urist Da Vinci said macros to play the animation might be a good idea.
