Dorfy Literature - Snippets from DF Books, a creative exercise
« on: February 14, 2012, 03:20:36 pm »

Browsing through the books in one of my games, I found some of them contained some very neat ideas which it might be fun to explore as a little creative exercise.

Here's how it works: I will post the name and description of an actual book found within my DF world. Whoever feels up to it may then write a short snippet (no more than 350 words, no less than 50) from that book. The part can be taken from any section of the book and should try to emulate the style described as well as possible.

After you have written your part, it's your turn to suggest a book for the next writer to work out and so forth.

If there are any simultaneous posts concerning one of the current suggestions, the next writer may choose either of the previous-tier books, but none older than that.

__________

Alright, here's the first suggestion:

You don't have to ask moderators to move threads- as OP, you are allowed to move it yourself. There's a button over the quick-reply box.

Maybe it's parasitic. It never loses its flavor because you eventually die from having your nutrients stolen by it.

As much as I hate to say it, this needs to be moved one last time. This is more of a Creative Project than a forum game.

I think this is perfectly in line with other activities on the forum games section, and that it fits here fine.

I'm watching this.

Sounds more like a forum game, though.

I'm wrong. This is a forum game. I missed the part where someone posts the suggestion for the next book.

Wouldn't there be a whole bunch of people in the middle of writing if someone posted first? This might favor the fast, and not the good. I suggest the GM picks the winner within a day of a book being posted.

Suggested ruleset? This would help a lot of people and their creative writing skills!

Quote from: Maybe a ruleset?
> In the timespan of ~two days, the current bookkeeper shall view upon the submissions of those who dared write what was already written. The one he/she finds suitable, shall post down one book that said champion has found in his/her own DF world and the cycle shall continue so forth.

This transcends worlds.

> Maximum of 350 words. Minimum of 50 words. If there would be any out-of-topic prose or anything not related to the submission; it must not be in italics. The submission should be in italics.

> The bookkeeper shalt post the forum time (I'm thinking forum time does not differ even if personal settings are changed) of the current day until the second, this shall be the deadline.

> If, for whatever reason, the bookkeeper cannot keep to his/her timeset, the day shall be extended by (one or two?) more days. This rule shall be kept in accordance when the bookkeeper posts down Extend in bold lettering.

> No editing of posts. This means to even fix a typo, or a missing letter. Abuse that Preview button.
