I need liquid, and FAST.

If I kill one of my dwarves, can they drink the blood?

Nope.

If you need water desperately and have none on the surface, try digging down to the caverns and pray for water there.  And relative safety.

Huge river on the surface, along with a FB.

The cave underground with water? It's far away and I'm not sure 2 dying-of-thirst miners can make it in time.

You could try channeling out an area underneath the river.

You could try channeling out an area underneath the river.

Likely to result in fun if the pressure rules are not respected.

On the other hand, hastily drilling a hole straight down until you hit water and then putting a well on top with no regard to miner safety or forgotten beast resistance is also somewhat fun.

On the third hand, if the dwarves in question are too thirsty to make it to the caverns (not that far on most maps) or, say, build a still, craft barrels and brew alcohol to drink, then they're all probably going to die.

OP, next time alcohol and at least one secure deep wellshaft are priorities.

Here's what you need to do. Dig up under the river, USE DIAGONALS TO CUT OFF PRESSURE, and once you're under the river - dig an upstairs, and then a downstairs into the floor of the river. Make sure the upstairs is accessed directly through a diagonal connection only, this way the miner only needs to move through the diagonal and he's safe and sound (dwarves, generally, can outrun water if the pressure is cut off). I do this kind of thing for piercing deep oceans with miners, with the strategetic use of diagonals it's completely safe.

If the FB is on the surface, it's very likely that it has a way to the caverns as well. So you're pretty doomed.

Tried spamming rock pots and alcohol?

Unless he meant a titan?  Otherwise, yeah, that's pretty bad.  At least one of the cavern layers would be unsafe if that was the case.

The suggestion is a good one though: why do you need water?  If you need drinks, do you have any plants to brew?  If not, you've probably got even more problems.  :)

Just dig into the river from the side, de-pressurise it and drink from that...
