law-giver fired?
« on: January 29, 2012, 06:11:23 pm »

You see, the goblins that have been attacking me have one leader, a law giver which is an opossum fiend, rather, was their law-giver. Nasty little thing, my dwarves made engravings of him killing dwarves from sieges in years like year 6 and onward. (year 131 currently, started the fortress in year 126) so he was quite ruthless. Then, suddenly, he appears in a siege (totally pimped out with rings made out of dwarve's parts, and two crowns.) wearing virtually no armor and just some fancy clothes. He ran away before anything could happen, and the other goblin squads were killed in my insane death hallway. Now, when I look at the goblin civ, it lists it as having no important leaders. Despite the law-giver surviving. Since it was an opossum fiend, it wont die of age. Any idea of what happened? was he fired for other gobbos realizing that a pimped out possum was a useless leader? Was he too ugly for even them? Did he bite his lip?

note the opossum fiend had external ribs, deadly spittle, and long wavy red hair that probably covered its entire body.

There is a bug in the current version such that any creature which holds a position in a civilization looses that position when it leaves the map.  This means that named civilization leaders that appear leading sieges will never come back, even if they survive and get away.  It also means that your diplomats and liaisons get replaced every year.

This is one of the things fundamentally changed by the new release, right? Historical persons tracked even through dfmode?

No, it's just a bug in the current version - it worked just fine in the past.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

"fired" is such a subjective term.

I prefer magma'd.
