Adventurer wouldn't stop moving right
« on: February 19, 2008, 10:43:00 am »

I was playing on my favorite adventurer when this bug occurred. I was in a cave and wanted to look at the layout. I hit "l" and held down shift and an arrow key. When I hit space to leave look around mode my adventurer immediatly started moving right. I hit T to go to the world map and she started moving right on the world map. When she got ambushed by wolves she started moving right on the local map again. I saved and loaded and it was still happening. Closing and reopening DF fixed it, wierd bug though.

Keyboard lock. Happens sometimes. You need to reproduce the exact sequence that caused the glitch to make it go away. You were lucky it was "right" not up or down - you'd have a hell of a trouble navigating the menu then.

What happened is that you hit shift, right (or vice versa) to scroll and then let go in the same order (shift, right / right, shift) causing the progam to not get the key release for one of the keys (in this case the right arrow).

I find it always has to do with the Shift key.

Hitting F11 twice fixes this problem for me when it happens in dwarf mode.

I donno if it will fix it in adventure mode, but I'd think so.

I see this bug has been brought up a great number of times, in many different threads. There seems to be two distinct but related bugs:

Bug 1: With numlock OFF, spamming the numpad keys causes the directionals to stick (i.e. the controls go haywire)
Bug 2: With numlock ON, releasing shift while a numpad direction is already held in causes the same problem.

Bug 2 seems to occur in all places where you can use shift-move.

A nice, quick fix for this is simply to change focus to a different window, then change back again.  I tend to run DF in windowed mode, however, so I don't yet know if this fix works with fullscreen.

I find that if I press shift + whatever direction I'm stuck going in that this clears the problem.
