debian freebsd-i386 vs i386. is there any point in going bsd?

And/or, is it likely to give me trouble?

I want to install debian, but I dont know if I should go the safe way and go for standard i386, or risk a bsdish debian

No, I think I can afford the time to do one install in my sort-of-free time, but I have MIR in 9 days, and don't want to have to reinstall just for the sake of an experiment (I might just do that afterwards, though)
