So I start a new fortress with the new version. My first immigrant wave comes along and the first thing in it is... A child? Yep. This child seems to have no parents, and sleeps with a male farmer. There are no married couples in my fortress. Is this a bug or an oddity?

Are you sure he wasn't an orphan? Was he the only immigrant?  If not then how can you be certain that he didn't have any parents?

Sounds like the male farmer is it's dad, at least I hope so...

The dwarf she sleeps with is only one dwarf. Couples sleep in the same bed, and there's only one assigned to the bed. I've just never seen them come without two parents. Or atleast a mother.

And just now, on another immigration wave.. Another dwarf child came, but this time instantly grew up to become a peasent before it even finished migrating... I have some strange children in this fortress.

That's nothing; I had an immigrant kid one time come in, grab a workshop, and make an artifact right after immigrating.

Then the little puke got kidnapped by goblins, but that's another story.

my last wave of immigrants was 2 gemcutters and 2 fisherdwarves and 4 children

i haven't found gems yet, and i'm in the desert, so there is no water.  AND four children.  woo.
