Dwarven lifespan
« on: January 15, 2012, 07:06:27 pm »

Do dwarves have a lifespan? Assuming that nothing like goblins, lava, water, etc. happens, how long will a dwarf lives. Yes, I know that it is against dwarven morals to attempt to avoid death.

Dragons will add an additional dwarf to their size for every two years after that

I know what you meant, but I parsed this as "Dragons will eat a dwarf every two years". Which really, would be about the most dwarven pet you could get.

Dwarves live 150-170 years.
Elves are immortal.
Goblins are immortal.
Humans are 60-120 I think.

Very few fortresses last long enough for this to be an issue.

On young worlds (less than a Dwarven lifespan of world generation history) some of your dwarves will have "the appearance of someone who is about 60 years old" and be described as "one of the first of his/her kind." As in, if it's year 40 and your dwarf appears 60 then Armok created them fully grown at age 20. Because he could, and he wanted to keep the distribution of ages right so the planet was never completely filled with toddlers.

I always wondered why my dwarfs were always so old when I embarked. It seems they are all actually young, lol.
