Elven Merchants get overjoyed when they get a trade agai

They still won't accept a trade that has materials created out of wood or some animal, but their status apparently seems to jump directly to the highest level of satisfaction.

In detail, I was bored with an elven caravan that only brought wood to trade. With some high level craftsmen, I could use one rock trinket to buy it all out. So I traded several times to build up my trader's social skills. Quite by accident, I offered them some leather clothing, which from previous experiences pisses them right off.

Instead, the trader status jumped from the neutral "willing to trade" to "overjoyed" or whatever the highest level is (green coloured text). Since it was purely an accident, I backed off out of the trade screen to see if that one trade would make them leave. It didn't, so I went back and tried trading the same object again. No change.

After tapping the trade button a number of times, I backed off again to see what changed. My trader gained skills in Negotiation, Pacifier, and a few others while the elves were still content to sit at the depot and trade some more. You could theoretically build your trader up to legendary by tapping/holding the trade button down with absolutely no consequences.
