Dwarf Fortress has some of the most realistic combat ever, mainly because Dwarf Fortress absolutely positively does not give a damn about what's fair. Every single fight is a struggle between life and death because killing the dark lord slaying the dragon and saving the princess isn't going to mean shit if a deer kicks you in the head. Whether the bad guys get stabbed by the hero or a dirt farmer they're gonna die.

Dark lord? BAH! I'd be much more afraid of a Dwarflord who's so drunk she can't feel her eyes. Dwarf Fortress makes sure that every fight is a struggle between death, and not dead yet. That deer has 9 notable kills now. And the bad guy was probably your adventurer.
