Well, I was trying to find a way to reserve some barrels for my brewing.. I was making a few hundred piles of prepared food to sell in summer... (it was spring) and so I designated a single stockpile for booze only.. set it to full barrels.. and it filled.. then dwarves kept putting prepared food in those barrels in the wrong stockpile..

yet there was a perfectly good stockpile right next door for all my other plant foods.. and another one further off for meat foods..

is there any way to reserve a barrel? I dont want ANYTHING going in it except booze (ive run out of booze twice this way.. and I hate selling my rare barrels along with my prepared food! im on a desert map... no trees, only imported wood and a few copper barrels.)

Question: Did you make sure you toggled prepared foods off on the list of allowed stuff?  It's u or v while viewing the list of foods under the stockpile if memory serves me correctly.  (It's possible you have a stockpile that allows beverages and prepared meals).

You could also try turning off "Dwarves mix food" under orders, but you'll need a lot more barrels, which kind of defeats the purpose of what you are trying to do.

i didnt know there was an option for prepared food.. couldnt find it anywhere, was frustrating me further.

Look in the lower right corner of the custom stockpile screen, after selecting "Food". It's also where you find "usable" and "unusable" for armor and such.
