Dwarves not building up
« on: December 23, 2011, 06:06:54 pm »

So I want to build roof. I have built ramps and stairs (and downstairs on 2nd z lvl on stairs) but my masons just don't build them or anything. Help?

Ramps need to be built next to a wall, and have an direct floor on the z lvl above them to be accessible. Stairs also have to be connected, and that should fix your problem :)

You have two choices when attempting to build a floor as a roof for the z-level below.

1) Build a ramp outside next to the wall that surrounds the "room" you want a roof on and designate the floors to be built.
Code: [Select]
  O wall, A up ramp, v down ramp , + Floor

OOOOO    +++++
O+++O    +   +
O+++OA   +   +v
O+++O    +   +
OOOOO    +++++

z-0     z+1

2) Build a set of stairs to the second level and designate the floors to be built.
Code: [Select]
  O wall, < up stairs, > down stairs, + Floor

OOOOO   +++++
O+++O   +   +
O+++O   +   +
O++<O   +  >+
OOOOO   +++++

z-0     z+1

Both use the same amount of stone, as you need one less floor if you use stairs, but you need both an up and down stair to allow access in both directions.
