Filling waterskin
« on: November 17, 2007, 10:05:00 am »

I've been having trouble with my military for a year or so.  They never finish filling their waterskins.  Meanwhile, the game has been running slower and slower.  I just looked in a waterskin and found they really have been filling them all this time; there are thousands of water objects.

Game and filling was started in .33a, filling continues in .33b

Any suggestions to get rid of these waterskins?  I think they have me running at about 1/8th the speed I am accustomed to.  I'm going to try to trade them away at the next opportunity, but it will take a long time to get there.  I don't have a chasm.  I have them dumped someplace convenient right now.

Just turn off the order for the squad to carry their water in the army screen (m > v > w)

Have done already that, but the amazing amount of water they collected over the span of the previous year is still causing a speed problem.

this was in the PRE Z level problems also
apparently it wasnt fixed?

make sure your waterskins are in working condition

imagine filling a x waterskin x with a hole in it
or an XX waterskin XX that is half gone

designate them forbidden if you can manage to make them drop it

my dwarves dont have this problem --- yet

Bug report aside, my present problem is that the dwarves created a huge number of objects and dragged the simulation to its knees.  I have successfully stopped the problem from getting worse, but I can't think of a way to get rid of all the objects.  I was going to trade them away, but I got hit with the "Last Dwarves On Earth" bug.

Not sure if it will actually remove the items from memory or just hide them, but you could try a trash compactor and dump the waterskins there.
