So I got a letter today telling me i need to pay £20 because I didnt have a ticket.. from somewhere i've never heard of before. i looked it up and its on the south coast when i have no reason to go further south than the M25.

not to mention I've not BEEN on a train since early october, and I was in uni on the day it was issued (they have registers that can prove it, i have no idea how to reference them though)

so I go to appeal online but the notice field only lets you enter 3 characters... my notice number has 4.

what do?

Sounds like a scam to me - especially with the mismatching character numbers. TBH I have never heared of a train firm mailing fines like that - in my experience they are issued when on/leaving a train or station by a conductor or member of the transport police. Either that or someone got nabbed and handed in your details. Know anyone who would be travelling in that part of the UK around that time?

Just ignore it, it really does sound like a scam.
