Hello^^
Im new to the game. But i cant change the z-levels^^ I tried to change the keys ingame but it seems that doesnt work, when i hit backspace, nothing happens. And i also tried to change them with the init.txt, but that doesnt work neither -.-

I played for quite a while before I realized other Z-levels even existed. cut a one level fort, then freaked out when goblins appeared seemingly out of nowhere.

Im sorry but thats exactly my problem, if i press shift+ (one of the arrow symbols) then it switches to the record menue. If i press ctrl + numpad 5 then i can go z-levels down, but i dont know how to get up -.- there are is no keycombination for this -.-

Don't feel bad. It took me like 20 hours of playing to figure out how to get dorfs to even move between z-levels (i.e. how stairs work). I couldn't figure out that you needed to connect an up stairs to a down stairs.

that has nothing to do with "figuring out" i suspect that my keyboard sucks. I said a hundret times that i cant find a keycombination for changing the z-levels !!! and if i want to change the keybindings nothing works -.- wtf

Odd. Key config can be annoying especially on a laptop, but I never had any problem using the ingame key-config-change option.
What is the problem : You change the config and it doesn't work? You can't change the config when in the menu? You can't access the menu?
Did you save the config after your changes?

Try downloading the lazy newb pack. With it's launcher you can make it set the keys to 'laptop' which should solve your problems.

Oh, the laptop issue has been solved long ago. The hard way (had to manually reassign most of the non-letter keys. some letters, too.)
Of course, I have to do it again at each new version.

If you have to do massive reassignments then there might be an easier way to do it every time a new version comes out. In you data/init folder there is a text file called interface.txt. If no new keybindings have been added, then you can simply copy this file over into your new DF version and it will overwrite all of the default keybindings with your saved ones. Of course if new keybindings have been added you might need to search for the new keybindings in order to copy them over into your old interface.txt, but it still might be easier then reassigning most of the keys manually.
