23a on linux
« on: December 15, 2011, 02:49:03 am »

Heyy all, I've been trying to get 23a (last 2D version) to run under wine, but I get an FPS of about 5 at the max, and once the 1st migrants get here it's down to about 0-1FPS. 40d runs perfectly well under wine, with 100FPS for about as long as the linux native version of df2010 keeps it.

I tried disabling temp and weather, and a bunch of other things to improve FPS to a playable level (I would be happy with just 20 at this point) I got about 50FPS at outset in 23a when this computer had windows installed, but windows is no longer an option.
Any advice for getting 2D DF running under wine? or am I just going to have to learn to live with it (or not play 2D DF)?

Thanks in advance for any help!

I also use Linux. Downloaded alpha, gave it a try. Same problem.

From what I gather, it's related to the graphics driver, using the free nueva(or w-e it's called) driver rather than the proprietary Nvidia driver seems to cause this (not sure about non-nvidia cards).
I might try installing the proprietary driver later if I feel a bit less lazy about it, or test it out on a comp I have without an nvidia card in it.

Quick update: My last update (I hate auto-updates -.-) broke my nueva driver somehow, so I installed the Nvidia proprietary driver, and DF now works perfectly in wine for me, so this issue has been resolved for me.
