Not claiming bodies. Dorf or Gob.
« on: December 12, 2011, 03:05:35 am »

Long story short no one is claiming bodies. They have long since stunk up the place and are so far into decomposition that miasma is no longer a problem.

The bodies are all in obvious places. Meeting hall, forge room. One is even set to prop open my front door. (I have a moat so dont worry.)

Bodies are NOT set to forbid.

I have more than enough burial chambers. All set to accept the dead.

Orders are set to claim own dead a well as "other dead" which I assume are the dead Gobs sitting in my dining room.

I have plenty of room in refuse. No gobs get moved there.

I have an activity center designated corpses. No one gets moved there.

I have plenty of nojobs with "burial" enabled. They stand on the almost compeltely decomposed bodies of dead friends while they discuss the plump helmet harvest.

Whats going on? Ghosts are a problem but I just learned what slabs do so im going to attempt to correct that problem. Any workarounds or should i just appease the spirits with slabs and lets the bodies sit there?

-EDIT- I think I may have screwed myself and set orders to "claim death items" when a vile force or darkness showed up and slaughtered a dwarven caravan. I think what is happening is theyre running off into nowhere collecting what the caravan was chased all over the 8x8 country side dropping shit out of their pockets as they went. I still have enough people that have ALL JOBS DISABLED aside from their own specific specialty, but still have burial enabled. Can anyone confirm this?

You could try dumping the bodies to get them away from the meeting hall for a temporary solution.

It is trivially easy to accidentally turn off "dwarves gather refuse" from the orders menu. Double-check to make sure it's on.

Yes, refuse orders are set to gather.

Goblins and other enemies/non-dwarves don't get buried, they get thrown on the refuse heap. Is yours big enough?

Use (d) (b) (c). If the bodies and such are showing up green, they've already been forbidden, and having "claim dead" in the orders isn't going to help what's already been forbidden. With (d) (b) (c) still on, designate the area they're in to reclaim them.

Well, yes I said I have enough room in refuse and no gobs get moved there but ill check the d-b-c thing.

-EDIT- well sonuvabitch I think you just solved my dead bodies AND clothing on the floor everywhere problem!
How did that happen? Was there a specific order set at the time those things hit the floor? Is there a way to mass forbid things on the ground like those 4 caravans that got jumped outside my fort that are tying up all my dorfs in item hauling?

-DOUBLE EDIT!!!- duhhh. solved my own question as to mass forbid.

one thing i often do is set a meeting hall and dining hall in a place where i channeled the survace. so my workers dont get cave adaptation. If you did that, you need to allow for outside refuse gathering

clothing on the floor:

d-b

claims all items on the square. usually items from invaders and stuff are forbidden so your workers dont run out to get stuff while there are still enemies around

if its "owned"  by a dwarf, you'll need to use dfhack

Jam a door with its corpse and let all the goblins in. Hey, nobody said it had to be a weapon against your enemies.
