I'd like to join in as well if I could. Sounds like fun! Genesis is a great mod and I've always wanted to try a succession game.

Edit: TopHat was muted but that should be over by the time the currently listed players are finished... hopefully this game can keep going.  :-\

Journal of Narc Crushedracks, Overseer- Laststand

3 Granite, 127
We've been out in this frozen, miserable excuse of an outpost for a year now, and apparently, the current overseer, fellow by the name of "Blue Area" or something just couldn't hack it anymore. Called me up to his office and told me he was going to retire to a life of bookkeeping.

He informed me that I was now responsible for the well-being of the fort, his current plans for expanding the sleeping quarters in preparation for the inevitable wave of immigrants, the need to somehow fill our cistern from the currently-frozen river, and the fact that there would probably be a goddamned seige soon as the beastfolk and gobbos figured we were out here, before fleeing to his swanky office. Wonderful, as if I'm not busy enough digging out all those weird pinwheel bedrooms he insists on making. I mean, I'm handy with a pick, certainly, but all these bedrooms seem excessive. Not as if frozen shitholes are a top vacation spot among the affluent residents of the mountainhome.
Looking over his plans, I noticed inadequate craft space, and ordered plenty of new areas built. Should be able to put all those useless immigrants to work making useless stone crafts to sell to the humans.

With regards to the whole water crisis, I've put plans in place to find magma, and pump it up under the river, hopefully melting the frozen river. If it doesn't work, I can just reroute it and make magma forges close to the surface. I call it Project: Thermos

I'm off to work on it with Bluesproto, it may be a while before I have the opportunity to write again, so farewell for now, journal.

Journal of Narc Crushedracks, Overseer- Laststand
20 Slate, 127
All is well, migrants have arrived. Mining is slow with only myself and Bluesproto, drafting a stone clan jeweler to help move things along a little.
In other news, the brewer informed me that we were out of barrels to store booze in. I told one of the carpenters to churn them out until I tell him to stop. With luck, we will have enough stockpiled to survive the winter without having to rely on drinking muddy water. I also told the butcher to slaughter all the damn kittens I kept tripping over on my way to the dining hall, as well as a few raccoons we caught in the cage traps.
I ordered a drawbridge built across the river, and all traffic funneled through that point.

13 Felsite, 127
The elven caravan has arrived, hopefully we can offload some of our useless crafts on them, maybe get some cloth or something in exchange.

18 Hematite, 127
The elves left with a bunch of useless crafts, lighter by a few barrels of drinks and food, As I was wishing them farewell, one of the gem cutters I told to go make some coke so we could kickstart our steel production ran by me, gibbering about some wonderful idea he had.

I swear to god, if he makes a goddamned gem-encrusted flute I will relocate it somewhere uncomfortable.

Journal of Narc Crushedracks, Overseer- Laststand
21 Galena, 127
More migrants arrived, bringing fort population up to 23. Soon afterwards, some Keeper merchants arrived, and I ordered all the crafts and gems brought up to the depot. Inspecting the items to be traded, I was surprised to find a figurine of myself, done by Tirist Lertethsazir.

The craftsdwarfship was superb, but seeing such an idol, representing me working, expanding the fort, seemed a bit... voyeuristic? I ordered it to be traded away. No use in idle vanity when so much remains to do. As yet, no siege or ambush has occurred, but we must not become complacent. I ordered the bridge to be attached to a lever, so that we may remove entrance from across the river. Won't do much good if the river freezes, however, but every bit is helpful

Ok, so i'm able now to pick a turn! Sorry for not being able to play my turn last time!

PS: Also... I'm a miner? Then... Could you make me part of some sort of miner squad? I don't want to die at the hands of some FB when breaching the caverns.

Dear Urist: I, the overseer, appreciate your point of view about the danger that an unarmed goblin can represent at the other side of a fortification when you try to kill it with a ballista, but, as you know, you're not paid to think. And a mindless worker is a happy worker, so shut up and do your job.

I always make sure my miners are well taken care of, plus there's the fact that there are as of yet, no entrances to the fort from the caverns, so no FBs randomly popping in for a hello. If you're worried, you can burrow yourself somewhere when there's danger.
