Military oddity
« on: December 11, 2011, 02:17:37 pm »

I've been having some problems with my military. The keep standing on top of weapons/armour, with the job "Training session" or "Pick up equipment". They spend ages standing there, not actually picking the items up. They're not forbidden or anything, so I have no idea what going on. Ideas?

You seem to be under the illusion that we give a shit about what happens to dwarves who are too dumb to live.

On the Weapons part, do you have anything more than one particular weapon designated to each dwarf? And how are they scheduled?

When a dorf goes off duty he may change his equipment depending on your settings, and this could be something messed up in the settings causing the soldiers to get stuck in a loop of sorts.

(As an aside, I had a bit of a hard time figuring out all this new stuff as well. I still do, actually, but once you start to get the hang of it you realize how powerful it really is.)

They've all just got the one weapon, a shield and full armour. Schedule wise, each squad is training for 2 months then off for 2 months. They remain uniformed during this time.

I generally haven't had that many problems with the new military system, apart from the usual problems with gloves and boots.

The very first thing to check with military dwarves who wont wear gear, is whether they have the mining, woodchopping or hunting labors enabled. Those labors have a uniform of sorts which conflicts with the military uniform, resulting in unpredictable weirdness.

The other thing to do is to keep the uniform simple. You only need to assign 1 gauntlet and 1 boot, the dwarves are smart enough to know this means a pair of them. Assigning 2 will confuse them.
