I'm bummed that it wouldn't let me pick my old character name (Red Threat). So instead, I'm now The Red Colossus. Which kinda sucks, because people will think "trollolol Colossus expy", when he's not. If anything, he's a Crimson Dynamo expy.

If I get in any playing time soon, I want to roll up a Villain as well. I'd be interested in doing a themed group (Hero or Villain) if there's enough folks who want to. It's pretty sweet to bring your crew into town in matching spandex. After all, what would the Fantastic Four be without those iconic blue suits, or the X-Men without their uniforms...

Oh man...I wish I hadn't deleted some old CoH screens I found a couple of months ago. For one thing, I could have used them as a costume guide to try and replicate my old toons. But I had one where Red Threat was surrounded by about 30 of the pseudo-Nazi guys (are they still in the game?). Being an uber-tank with a big AoE melee attack was hella satisfying.  :D

Right now, I just have my one character (still in tutorial) on Freedom. Although I tried to play last night and something went totally south with the client. Did the "Repair" option, and now it needs to download nearly 2GB of something. Guess I'll have to let it run overnight tonight.

I have a question: How much does it cost to be a VIP in the game?  I've looked around, and can't find the price anywhere.  Also,  I'm Black n' Red Ninja in-game as a villain, and my brother just started playing, too. His name in-game is Red Shock.

VIP is something like 19.99 a month, less if you pay for a year or six months in advance. Basically, the average price for P2P MMOs.

I kind of hate to ask...but how does this compare with DC Universe Online, now that that is also free to play?
I loved the graphics in DCUO but quickly grew bored with the button-mashing combat and grinding levels through delivery quests.

Graphics are sub-par (imho) because the graphics engine is several years old now. Combat is, well....button-mashing. It also feels more laborious and slower-paced than Champions, although that could be because I'm still low-level.

The real pro to CoH is the level of power customization. Not only can you mix and match powersets, but you can tweak each individual power with enhancements (the only real "loot" in the game) so that your fireball does more damage than the average (or takes less endurance, or recharges faster, etc.).

Overall, I think it's a lesser game than Champions Online but I'm still giving it a chance for a while. It's free, and it's kind of nice to redeem those 18 months' worth of paid time for some perks.

I'd be up for a SG on Freedom, either villain or hero.
