I've always used crafts myself. I've always wondered if the entire fortresses worth of stone that I carve into masterwork crafts by the truckload have collapsed the outside world's craft market. Every time I buy out a caravan at 3x it's value I imagine there's a destitute human craftsman somewhere in the world, weeping.

I generally used stone crafts as well, although once my fort got rolling, I started to use more fancy materials than the endless stone.  I particularly liked selling glass instruments, if I had a volcano.  Who'd a thunk that dwarves were so musical?
