Starving Idiots
« on: September 04, 2006, 07:42:00 pm »

On maps where there is no vermin to be had, some dwarves like to keep hunting for it, even when there is plenty of other food around. They then starve to death.

Perhaps these dwarves could also include mushrooms and normally non-edible bushes in their scrounging?  Of course, they might get poisoning or something...

The problem is that they will not stop hunting for food eve when there is a sack of plump helmets right in front of them.

That's weird.  They should do a regular food check first.  I guess they need to be lobotomized again...

I have a game where 6 of my dwarves (Still in the first winter) picked up a piece of food and then froze with indecision on what to do with it.  most of them went to their bedrooms with the food.  4 of them have now died of starvation while holding a piece of meat in their hands.  I have the Save file if you want it.  The other two (including my legendary miner/engraver) are still sitting there.

Yeah, if you've still got that save I'd like to see it.  That sounds very strange.

I need region#.sav + region# folder in some kind of zip/rar, either from some kind of link or you can send it to toadyone@bay12games.com

I had some dwarves who were absolutely convinced that they had to eat at a specific table.  Unfortunately, the table they picked was inside a room where I'd locked up some elephants who had decided to rampage through my fortress.  Even though the doors to that room were locked, they kept trying to use that table and no others.  They kept spamming "Eat canceled: no path" or some similar message instead of looking for another table they could reach.

Evenutally I let the elephants out after I set up cage traps.  This solved the problem, but it seems like a bug that the dwarves don't find an alternative table to eat at.  Could this be related?

Why didn't you just undefine the table's dining room?

If it wasn't a dining room, you could've tried marking it for removal...  this would get you spam, too, but probably less, and I think dwarves won't use furniture marked for removal.
