Lack of Forgotten Beasts?
« on: December 02, 2011, 10:45:47 am »

Well, my current fort is entering its first decade, we have a nice army, well set traps and defenses which are the main source of seasonal goblinite, magma forges, etc. But I have noticed a lack of forgotten beasts or other kind of monsters in comparision of previous forts. All I got in a decade was an ettin, who got captured and has been employed as the official fortress executioner.

Anyone has noticed long waits for FBs before? I used to get one every 2-3 years or so...

Consider yourself lucky. I had over a dozen show up in my last fortress within the first three years.

Did you happen to change any of the worldgen parameters? Changing the number of cavern layers might have an influence on how many FBs there are total. There's also any number of historical events that could have potentially wiped out most of the FBs.

Well I havent tweaked the worldgen paramenters, and I had other forts on this world before, which had shown enough FBs around, even ground-level ones.

Did you make your current fort nearby/in the same region as the last ones? You might have killed all the above ground Titans in the area. FBs shouldn't have this problem though, since they are shared across all the world.

Well, after a FB popping up on my fort's 14th year, I think that this was the correct answer

Might just be coincidence :/

Yeah, I just walled the corridors to the caverns in case that a happy train of FBs pop up there...

Well there's a finite number of FBs that are generated with each world so you might be thinning out their numbers if you managed to kill some in previous forts. Or they could just be loitering there waiting for adventurers to wander by. I don't think they leave once they've wandered into an embark site.

Frankly I think the frequency that FBs show up is way too high. Ideally they would start showing up around year 10 and there wouldn't be any more than one hanging around a fortress at a time. Better yet, they would be hostile towards each other.

I guess after living with one another since before the beginning of time, they've learned to put their major differences aside.

In an ideal universe, there are no more wars. (Against FBs)
