Seiges... And having 30 highly skilled liberals.
« on: June 17, 2012, 01:16:53 am »

All with military weapons stolen from the CCS before destroying them once and for all.

All with either heavy body armor or army body armor.

Most with roughly 8 rifle skill.

After shuffling them all around for a while every time I heard a warning for a seige, I got annoyed with the process... And decided, screw you, I'll take the army on instead of practicing the alphabet every few turns.

And what do you know, my guys get first strike and all 30 of them get a turn, and they only send something like 9 soldiers. Their soldiers don't fire a round, they just wait till I'm done my turn and they're dead. Not really fair...

It's not the same challenge as running around in an enemy base... Or your own base for that matter. A squad of six alone running into a bunch of agents is certain death if you're not armed like a soldier yet, and they put more than one squad of agents in your base too... Without a good disguise you're toast, and I've never happened to have black suits (on or around) at the time.

Yeah it's a bit broken playing on the defensive on the siege.  Especially if you have enough assault rifles - you can fight off waves of SWAT or mercenaries without really breaking a sweat.

your base is super easy to defend, shear numbers make it a joke, even with unskilled people using 38s the army loses.

Does that mean there's actually a good reason for releasing sweatshop workers?

You could get masses of unskilled gunners in a very short time without relying on any recruitment skills of any kind... and then set them to making clothes for you just to show them how much you care.

And use those clothes to pay for the guns you'll now survive all your battles with.. Make body armor...

Can envision a pretty easy win after a certain point.

Well, you'll eventually have to fight off tanks, but it's certainly a viable strategy.

Oddly enough, I've never had to fight off a tank. I've seen them moving around on the rare occasion that I had freedom of movement during a seige, but I think after a certain number of people occupy a site, the raid encounter becomes a single encounter where everybody in the whole site gets a turn before the bad guys can shoot. And I never saw the tank in that encounter..

Is it as simple as having more than a squad-full of 6 members?

The all-in-one type siege encounter occurs when you "sally forth" during a siege, using escape/engage before they assault the building. If you wait several days for them to come to you, you'll have the freedom of movement thing where both you and they are navigating your compound as separate units, and you can try to avoid enemies and attack them in smaller numbers after they hit your traps. The split up extended encounter is safer and much easier, especially if you invest in fortifications and traps, but waiting for it runs the risk of various dangers, such as having your tank traps removed by engineers. And if you didn't fortify the compound that is being assaulted, waiting during a siege will see random Liberals cut down by snipers even at low escalation levels.

Whether the siegers bring a tank is a matter of how escalated the siege is. They only show up in standard police sieges, and only when the siege is highly escalated. The escalation scale:

1. Police
2. Soldiers
3. Soldiers + a tank
4. Soldiers + a tank + air strikes (only affects waiting during the siege)

It's possible to leap up the scale to higher escalation levels if you get really high heat before being detected, but typically you'll only see the upper tiers if you slaughter a siege force and don't abandon the base. They will launch a second siege shortly after with an escalated force level, and will continue to do this until you abandon the safehouse.

There's not really a good reason to park your butt in a safehouse that the police are launching sieges against, even if you can fight them off, so optimal play will typically just avoid the higher tier sieges. But they are there to deal with players who bank on just surviving anything the game can throw at them during a siege.

I believe you can also end up fighting a tank if you get into way too much trouble at the military base and don't leave.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. That explains it. I've always sallied forth. :P Why let them snipe me off and bomb my compound to find out if they'll seige me...

I guess I've gotta try fighting off a seige the normal way instead of the easy way.

I had a siege on once with 42 guys in all, several squads armed & armored to the teeth and the rest with a mix of pistols, shotguns & SMGs.  The initial salvo was quite the slugfest.  It'd be neat if besiegers would send more appropriate numbers, or at least learn to escalate in numbers if the first siege ends in a pile of slaughtered conservatives.

I think that the number of people in a siege should depend on how many people are in the squad, and possibly their stats/equipment.

Take that and add the condition that the authorities have to be aware of each detail for it to count toward what kind of force they bring. Let's just say you slowly snuck lots of people into a pretty clean safehouse, and eventually get a little heat, maybe they'd show up completely overwhelmed by the unexpected number of guards on location and be forced to rethink their strategy based on new observations.

I guess it could also be made more difficult if there were Snipers who were very likely to at least peg off one or two people before you busted through a siege.
