Pretty sure the economy is coming back though. It just wasn't working right.

I do hope when it's brought back we can have a bit more control over it, because I love the concept of the economy. It just didn't seem to work well, it just made everyone but the nobles basically have to live with noth- ... maybe thats the idea though...

I must be the softest overseer in history, all my Dwarves get at least a 3 by three room with bed, cabinet and chest, all smoothed and engraved.

There are dwarves that are nothing but useless sacrifices - Miners are not one of them.

In my current fort, mine get 5x10 with a bed, cabinet, chest, and some fabulous cave moss carpeting. You're not the only one who tends to provide a little more than necessary.

also, she kept mandating frozen ooze pod pus items, and banning the export of... mugs and certain crafts I think it was.
Check their item preferences before recommending them for barony.
They really should let you do that from the selection screen.  Since they don't, if you get caught by the liaison unexpectedly (as I always do), open up a second instance of Dwarf Fortress, load that same save, and look through their preferences there.

Some players seem to promote the dwarves they think have earned an extravagant noble life, but I think having reasonable tastes is merit enough.  If Urist McHauler has an eye for steel, copper, and battleaxes, he deserves the position more than Urist McWarHero who demands giant cave swallow teeth.
