I recently started my first volcano fortress. It's now nearing the end of the second year, and I've had almost no traders (At all.)
I've seen 1 human caravan, and 2 dwarf caravans. I've gotten dozens of migrants.
I've seen neither hide nor hair of the elves. I'm alittle surprised. I may also be very disappointed...
I was so looking forward to it... Oh well.

your world has been blessed, unless you wanted to clear it from the hippie scum...
on a more serious note, its kinda bad you wont be getting exotic animals and tons of cloth bags.

Did you check your Neighbors when you embarked?  Depending on location, it is entirely possible to only get dwarven caravans, even when not on an isolated island.

Check "c" from the main menu and see if those hippy-dippys are on there.

Yeah, on the up side, if I don't get them, no hippy scum. On the downside: no exotic animals or seeds and no magma applied directly to elf.
I'll check it tomorrow.

Remember that civs only appear in [c] AFTER they enter you embark at least once.

You are getting human caravans, so you are not isolated (or at least not completely)
