Unusable materials.
« on: March 09, 2007, 12:31:00 am »

Sorry if this is a duplicate, I couldn't find a similiar thread on search

Many of my materials are currently 'unusable', I have for isntance 157 bags of sand, 70 brass bars and 30 steel bars (amoungst other things) yet any attempt to make steel, glass or brass items results in the 'action canceled, no materials' message.  The materials show up in the stocks screen and can be found manually, they are stored correctly and can be moved to different stockpiles.

Any ideas?

have you built any buildings out of them?
beacause if they are used to make a building they still come up on the screen for some reason

I always turn my metal into blocks before using them to construct buildings to avoid that, and I don't believe that I have used any brass to make things. I can also manually see the bars and sand filled bags in my stockpiles. thanks for the suggestion though.

I'm not sure, aside from normal things like accessibility to the workshop and worker being associated to them, etc.

I've tried to resolve all of those issues, and they are deffinately acessible, for instance the workers will use some sandbags from a stock pile (if fresh ones are made) but will not recognise the 'phantom' ones next to them.

Anyway, thanks; its about time I started a new fortress anway.   :p

I have a similar problem with sweet pod seeds in my current game. It happened immediately as the game started, too. Cave river floods, designate farm plot on the muddy ground. It's early spring of the first year. But the dwarves cancel the sweet pod planting because there are no seeds, even though checking fortress status tells me I have 6.

Have you found the seeds manually and verified that they aren't inaccessible and that they aren't being hauled or something like that?

I did find the barrel they were being kept in, and there was no way that it would have been marked for hauling, as it was already in the only food stockpile I had designated. When looking at it with 'k,' no 'TSK' marker appeared next to it, but I don't know if that can only be seen with 't' instead of 'k.' I have since abandoned that fortress (not because of the bug, because my miner drowned :/), and the current game didn't have any similar kind of problem.
