Order to kill a specific animal?
« on: December 18, 2011, 07:24:21 am »

Hi!

I have just got a well running castle but there are rats running around.
I don't have any cats (if they would kill them).
So i want to order someone to kill those little grey annoyances. is there any way to
do that?

Thanks in advance.

I don't think vermin are targetable like that.

Best you can do is starve dwarves until they decide to eat rats.

ask the next dwarf caravan to bring some cats, much more efficient and less likely to cause extremely moody dwarfs

I'd prefer Garath's method, since i have some lever activated spike traps.
One tantrum could cost many, many lives  :-\

*Edit*

It seems to be too late: Now there are Lizards runnding around in my castle xDD

Spike traps won't injure vermin, either. You need to specifically create Animal Traps (I believe you can make them at Carpenter's Workshops or at a Metalsmith's Forge), then enable the Animal Trapping labor on some dwarves and give the order to trap small animals. I'd recommend looking it up on the wiki for more information.
