Using Chests/Bags
« on: November 15, 2011, 01:56:55 pm »

I've been playing for a while and I have a tendency to outfit every dorf's room with a cabinet and a chest, but I've never, ever seen a chest used by a dwarf. I've seen chests and bags used in the hospital, but as part of a bedroom, are they useless? They store all their excess clothes in the cabinets and that's it.

Cabinets are used to store owned clothes, while chests are used to store other owned items. Since the economy doesn't activate in 31.x, dwarves don't usually claim items aside from clothing, so they've got nothing to store in chests.

I think your nobles will have use for them. They tend to claim shit.

It raises the value of the room, doesn't it?  I guess that makes it worthwhile if nothing else.

Plus, it makes me feel better knowing my dwarves have a box to stuff nothing in.  And it makes the bedrooms look a little less drab.

The military will store food in chests, which will prevent a stinky bedroom

Should you fail to comply, strict !!disciplinary actions!! will be taken. Also, we feel we should remind you that one of the "criminals" on your list is the chief medical dwarf. If he ends up too badly injured to do his job, you will be fired. Out of a magma cannon.
