[33f] Miners not digging in an easily accessible area.
« on: January 08, 2008, 04:03:00 pm »

My current fortress has two entrances: one is high up on a cliff where the starting wagon ended up, and another at the base of the cliff for human traders. Currently, I am constructing a barracks/tower next to the lower entrance to cope with the rifraff, spilling out from the exposed chasm nearby. The tower is sunk back into the cliff face a ways, so parts of it must be dug out rather than constructed. However, after digging out the bottom level, my dwarves refuse to dig the next level up. I built a ramp up to that level, and they still won't dig. has anyone else had this problem?

Dwarves will work while standing a on a ramp. I would recommend using stairs instead. If you are set on using a ramp make sure that A) the space above the ramp in clear B) your dwarves can reach the level the ramp is on and C) the ramp is next to a flat open space for the dwarves to move to.

Tried using stairs, and it worked fine. Thanks!
