The Dwark King Cometh

I finally got me a dwarven ruler. Here's a question: now that I'm a mountainhome, if that king dies, who becomes king? He has no heir nor spouse, and the raws say that the title is passed to the heir. Further, if no one rises to the position after his death, what happens to the civilization?

Lock your king in a room with all the unmarried females in your fortress so he makes some friends so he can spread his spores.
